An American study published in the European Journal of Immunology suggested a link between cannabis use and risk of developing cancer and other diseases.
Henry Scowcroft, Science information manager, Cancer Research UK, said:
“This research focuses on just one of thousands of chemicals in cannabis and it only looked at its effects on mice. So it’s impossible to say whether the conclusions hold true in people who smoke the drug. The issue of whether cannabis can cause cancer is a controversial one that is still not settled. What is certain is that most UK cannabis users smoke the drug with tobacco, which is still the single most important cause of cancer.”
